High-Performance Drywall & Plasterboard Screws

Regardless of whether you are plasterboarding a residential ceiling, or a large-scale commercial drylining contract, it is vital that you use the correct fastener. Using a standard wood screw can cause damage to the paper face of the plasterboard, thereby destroying the integrity of the board, not to mention leaving a poor surface for plasterers to work with.

A purpose-designed drywall screw has a unique 'bugle' head, which countersinks perfectly into the plasterboard, leaving a clean, damage-free surface. This, combined with a sharp Phillips drive (PH2), guarantees a straight drive every time.

Choosing the Right Drywall Screw for the Job

At Fixings Store, we stock a comprehensive variety of plasterboard fixings to suit different framing materials and installation methods.

Coarse Thread Drywall Screws

If you are fixing plasterboard directly to timber joists or wooden stud partitions, coarse thread screws are your go-to. The wider thread bites aggressively into the wood, providing exceptional pull-out resistance and a secure, long-lasting grip.

Fine Thread Drywall Screws

When installing plasterboard to light-gauge metal stud framing, usually with a thickness of up to 0.8mm, fine thread screws must be used. The closer thread pitch is intended for self-tapping into thin steel, preventing the steel from being bitten and ensuring the plasterboard is tightly fixed to the frame.

Self-Drilling (Jack-Point) Screws

For heavy gauge metal framing (over 0.8mm), regular fine threads will have difficulty cutting. The drywall self-drilling screws have a special drill point tip that cuts its own pilot hole in the steel, reducing user fatigue and installation time.

Collated Drywall Screws

Maximize your on-site efficiency with collated drywall screws. Designed for use with autofeed screwdrivers, these strips allow for rapid, continuous driving without fumbling for loose screws. Don't forget to stock up on the correct screwdriver bits to keep your tools running smoothly.

Protective Coatings: Phosphate vs. Zinc

Plaster also has moisture content which can cause screws to rust, resulting in unpleasant brown marks seeping through your newly painted walls.

  • Black Phosphate: The industry standard for dry lining. The black phosphate finish ensures that the jointing compound used is absorbed into the screw, thereby preventing any chemical reaction from taking place with the plaster. The finish also has excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Zinc Plated: Usually used for special drywall requirements or for areas where humidity levels are high. The finish has a bright appearance and also offers an extra level of rust resistance.
